Travel Insurance Exemptions To Keep In Mind

    JamesBy JamesNovember 18, 2023No Comments3 Mins Read

There are always risks and uncertainties involved in domestic or international travel. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is now more risky to travel without travel insurance. Travel insurance offers financial protection in case unforeseen circumstances arise while on the trip. * More people are now aware of the value of having travel insurance.

What Is Excluded From Travel Insurance?

The insurance policy’s exemptions or exclusions, which typically include the following:

    • Pre-Existing Conditions

Pre-existing medical conditions are not covered by travel insurance policies. However, each insurer may have a different definition of a pre-existing medical condition. A pre-existing condition is typically one the policyholder had for at least 48 months before buying the insurance policy.

    • Injuries Caused By Oneself

Any hospitalisation or injuries brought on by self-harm or a failed suicide attempt will not be covered by the insurance company.

    • Dental Treatment

Even though the insurance policy provides coverage for necessary emergency dental care following an accident, it is unlikely to do so for regular dental care. The insurer may, however, have a specific provision regarding this. Before making a claim, reviewing the policy document is a good idea.

    • Pregnancy And Child Birth

Pregnancy and childbirth are typically not covered under domestic or international travel insurance policies. However, you might be compensated if there are complications related to your pregnancy. Ask your insurance company about this provision if you intend to travel while pregnant.

    • Mental Illness

The majority of the time, mental illnesses like depression and bipolar disorder are not covered by travel insurance policies. The travel insurance policy will not cover the costs if you travel to receive treatment for any such mental illness.

    • Medical Treatment-Related Travel

The insurer will not cover your costs if you travel abroad for medical treatment. Policies for travel insurance do not cover planned hospitalisation; they are intended for emergencies only.

    • Health Conditions Due To Illegal Activities

Travel insurance policies do not cover any health problems brought on by the use of illegal or intoxicating substances. For instance, the insurance policy will not cover your treatment if you get hurt while travelling because you were driving while intoxicated by alcohol or another substance.

    • Adventure Sports

Many insurance companies don’t cover any damage or injuries that are sustained while indulging in adventure sports like bungee jumping, skydiving, snowboarding, and similar activities. Some insurers allow you to add such travel insurance coverage at an additional cost.

    • Poor Weather Conditions

Weather restrictions on travel-related activities are not covered by travel insurance. Although the insurance plan pays for weather-related flight delays or cancellations, it won’t reimburse you in case you decide not to participate in an activity because of a storm or other weather-related issue.

    • Last-Minute Changes

Travel insurance will not cover any cancellation costs brought on by similar modifications unless any last-minute changes made by the travel operator result in a complete curtailment. To get paid, get in touch with the operator.

You can always utilise a travel insurance premium calculator to understand the appropriate level of coverage for your needs and those of your family.

    *Standard T&C Apply

Insurance is the subject matter of solicitation. For more details on benefits, exclusions, limitations, terms, and conditions, please read the sales brochure/policy wording carefully before concluding a sale.
