Why You Should Not Handle a Rodent Infestation Yourself

    JamesBy JamesJanuary 23, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

Rodent populations are hard to handle and eliminate. A rodent infestation presents serious safety and health concerns and you may not be equipped to take care of it on your own. This makes professional Rodent control and removal an essential service to hire. Rodent control professionals have extensive experience handling rodents such as mice and rats. They can respond to your issue quickly as well as offer practical and effective solutions.

Mice elimination should not be taken as a DIY job. Although you can set traps or lay down bait in an attempt to address a rodent issue, it may not be effective. Usually, a rodent infestation is bigger than you realize. Thus, trapping and baiting won’t do much to affect the entire population. To effectively eliminate an infestation, you should work with pest control experts. The following are reasons you must invest in professional rodent removal:

    Rodents Can Reproduce Quickly

Did you know that a small rodent issue can quickly evolve into a serious infestation? A mouse can reproduce up to ten times every year and its gestation period is just 18-21 days. It can get pregnant immediately after it gives birth. Thus, you can see 2 litters after every 25 days. One litter can have 5-12 pups. Once a mouse is 4-7 weeks old, it can reach sexual maturity. Given these numbers, you can see that one female mouse can bring 120 mice to this world per year. If half of the mice present in your house are female, you can have thousands of mice infesting your house in a period of twelve months.

    They Can Damage Your Property

Rodents can cause serious property damage. They urinate and poop anywhere they go. Also, they tear up furniture, insulation, and cardboard to create nests. In addition, mice constantly chew to file down their teeth and stop them from growing. But this means they chew anything, including electrical wires and structural beams.

They Can Carry and Spread Diseases

Rats and mice carry and transmit different diseases to people. These include hantavirus, salmonellosis, and leptospirosis. Also, they can carry typhus, plague, and lymphocytic choriomeningitis. These rodents can transmit some diseases through their bite or scratch; however, you can get infected when you come into contact with rodent feces, urine, or contaminated surfaces. To protect yourself from these dangerous creatures, you must hire pest control experts to assess your property and come up with an appropriate treatment and removal plan.
