    How Many World Cups Have India Won?

    The first Cricket World Cup took place in 1975 in England. It involved two weeks of one-day matches played at 60 overs a side. The format consisted of a group stage with the top two teams in each group advancing to the semifinals. India was in Group B with Australia, New Zealand, and England, and competed against those teams and the hosts England. The tournament was played in front of large crowds dailybase.

    The next World Cup was held in Australia. India was expected to do well in this event, as they had a disastrous tour of New Zealand. Though they did not reach the semifinals, their effort helped establish India as a soccer powerhouse in Asia. It was also the first Asian team to advance in a major international tournament. In 1962, India’s men’s team won a third gold medal at the Asian Games. In 1964, India made its first appearance at the AFC Asian Cup edweeksnet.

    In the T20 World Cup, India won in the group stage, winning the first match against Australia. It later won the tournament on home soil. They were finalists in the 2003 and 2011 Cricket World Cups and placed third in 2015. The Indian cricket team has also been a semi-finalist four times.
