    JamesBy JamesApril 30, 2021No Comments5 Mins Read

If you are looking to gain strength and enjoy a full-body workout, consider Stand Up Paddleboard yoga. It is an ideal blend of two types of workouts. SUP yoga combines yoga with paddleboarding, both are perfect in their way. If you are scared to try SUP yoga, you are not alone. As a beginner, you may feel overwhelmed with the idea of combining paddleboard and yoga but it is much easier than it looks. SUP yoga is simply doing yoga on the paddleboard while you float in the water. You do not need to have a lot of experience in paddleboarding or yoga to enjoy the workout. Let us take a look at the health benefits of paddle board yoga.

    Benefits of SUP Yoga

    Enhances flexibility

SUP yoga can enhance mobility and increase flexibility in the body. It calls on many different muscles in the body and helps strengthen them. The exercises offer an extensive range of motion which works with different areas of the body and can help enjoy a full-body workout.

    Improves circulation

All of us are aware that an important aspect of yoga is focusing on breathing. It helps increase circulation and improves health. Yoga can also reduce stress. Hence, when you combine yoga and paddleboarding, you can focus on your breath and relax which ultimately improves blood circulation in the body.

    Weight loss

Besides improving circulation and working every muscle in your body, SUP yoga can help lose weight. It may look relaxing for someone who has never tried it, but it is very strenuous. A simple paddleboarding session burns about 400 calories per hour and SUP yoga burns even more. It can burn calories as high as 600 in an hour.

    Better balance

SUP yoga helps maintain balance as it needs a lot of concentration and balance to stay on a floating board while doing the right pose. Yoga can help focus on improving and maintaining the right balance. When you practice regularly, you will be able to improve your balance.

    Complete core workout

If you want to enjoy a full core workout, you should try SUP yoga. Yoga targets the core area and makes use of the core muscles to remain afloat during a workout. Your core muscles are crucial when it comes to maintaining the balance on the board. It is considered an ultimate core workout and is even better than pilates.

    Improve yoga techniques

No matter the exercise or sport you engage in, the technique will only improve with practice. With yoga, you need regular practice and the added challenge of a paddleboard will assist with refining the technique and you will improve the poses with time.

    Helps remain calm

Floating on the water can be very calming for the mind and body. Yoga is a relaxing exercise that calms the body and relieves stress. With SUP yoga, you can combine the calming effect of water with the stress reduction of yoga. When you are close to nature, you will feel calm and it will help enhance the impact of your workout.

    Empowering

SUP yoga is not an easy workout. It will take a lot of patience and hard work. You will not be able to excel at it overnight. It is an accomplishment to be able to do these exercises and it can be very empowering.

    Things to keep in mind

Before you workout, drink enough water. No matter the exercise you choose, it is important to remain hydrated. You will not be able to carry much on the paddleboard so it is best to drink water before and after the workout. Choose the right attire that gives flexibility and is comfortable. Swimsuits are the best for SUP yoga. Do not wear clothing that is too tight or too loose when you do yoga. Avoid wearing sunglasses or jewelry as it will get in the way and will not allow you to focus.

No matter what stage of learning you are in, be prepared to get wet. The workout takes place in water and needs a lot of practice and balance. You should expect that there is a possibility of getting wet. Even experts sometimes fall off the board and into the water.  Choose to work out when the water is calm and avoid it if it is rainy or windy.

The exercise is a lot of fun once you get a hang of it. It is ideal for improving your focus and overall health. It helps to engage in an exercise that is enjoyable and people who enjoy their workouts are more likely to stick to them. It is a mental and physical challenge and will need a lot of determination to balance the board but it is worth it. Yoga paddleboarding is a lot of fun for beginners as well as professionals.
