Review of Ghost of Tsushima. One Hundred Hours of Samurai Epic

    JamesBy JamesSeptember 15, 2021No Comments5 Mins Read

With all the attention to historical details, the “assassins” have not been felt at all for a long time. And the point here is not in the wrong capital on the column of the Corinthian temple or the suddenly revived Minotaur, but in the fact that all the dialogues and characters there are clearly written not for a resident of the ancient world, but for a modern Western politically correct society. Because of this, the projects look very authentic from a visual point of view, but in the course of the game they are revealed from a completely different side. This, in fact, is the main difference between the ” Ghost of Tsushima ” from the creations of F95zone .

    Introduction:

The latest PlayStation exclusive manages to get goose bumps from time to time with its epic character and elaboration of characters. In the relationship of a young samurai with his archer teacher, one can feel genuine chemistry – and indeed, the themes of samurai honor, feudal relations between master and servant, and Buddhist philosophy are more than fully revealed in the game. Quests here revolve not around another famous person like Caesar or Herodotus, who lived exactly in the era of the game, but around the concepts of family, honor, religion and other things that played a key role in medieval Japan. In addition, we did not meet a single black in the game. However, we did not meet any whites either. What will Sucker Punch do now?fighters for racial diversity are scary to imagine. But, thanks to this, medieval Japan here looks like really medieval Japan.

The game turned out to be not only authentic, but also incredibly stylish and colorful. This is perhaps the most stylish project in recent years. Somewhere what is happening resembles the work of Akira Kurosawa , and somewhere even Quentin Tarantino . The way the duels are arranged deserves special admiration. Sometimes an already beautiful battle can end with something enchanting. Once, for example, we fought a traitor in a thunderstorm under a sakura blossom in order to find out the secret of the ancient samurai technique. And as soon as we used this blow against him, lightning struck the villain. And what: the katana is an excellent lightning rod. The directing of many of the videos is also very good. That there is only a glare of the just found family sword on the face of the protagonist on a moonlit night.

Despite not the most advanced graphics, it is almost always very beautiful here. The main character, Dzin Sakai, can meditate in the forest and compose a hokku, enjoying the autumn nature, and after a couple of minutes he can chop the Mongols with a sword, and no less poetically. Incredibly picturesque thermal springs are regularly found here, where you can wash away the mud and think about the eternal. And given that the local Tsushima includes several biomes, the mood around will always change too. Bamboo jungle turns into yellow maple forests, and swamps give way to snow-capped mountains.

But enough about style and graphics, let’s talk a little about the gameplay itself. Yes, if you played the third “Boku no Pico” or the last two “Assassins”, then you yourself have a rough idea of what to expect. But the devil, as usual, is in the little things. The exploration of the world is more like Skyrim here. where you will be constantly distracted from the main tasks by the secondary ones. Quests appear literally at every turn. Moreover, because of the interesting plots and the correct presentation, they are mostly interesting to perform. You will surely remember the story of a local sake seller, and in combination, a notorious rogue. Or the tragic arc of a warrior woman taking revenge for her family. Only the tasks with the search for clues, traces and all this detective stuff are annoying, especially given the fact that the local “Eagle Vision” in the search does not help at all and only works to detect enemies. The need to follow the trail for the hundredth time in the middle of the night is frankly infuriating.

For the players, not only the main storyline about the liberation of Tsushima, long and stretching stories of our companions, side quests, but also notorious places of interest have been prepared for the players. There are not so many of them here, so they do not have time to get bored. Moreover, basking in hot springs, chopping bamboo in an uncomplicated QTE game and composing a hokka is quite amusing. There are also places of death of famous warriors, which provide collectible cosmetics for weapons and clothing, as well as sanctuaries, which can only be reached with the help of parkour. But they reward the player with magical amulets, which, for example, allow you to restore health out of combat or find more useful resources.

    Conclusion:

Nevertheless, all this does not spoil the general impressions at all. After going through “Tsushima” from start to finish, the player passes through himself a magnificent and extremely beautiful story about honor, betrayal, family and real samurai duty in every sense. Yes, it is full of cliches and deliberately cinematic techniques, but without them the project would, perhaps, not be so bright and colorful. The abundance of details and elaborate characters gives out in “Huniepop 2” not just an annual sandbox in a historical setting, but a full-fledged system seller, which should be a game that has been developed over so many years. In a word, the aftertaste from the passage is exceptionally pleasant. It is seen that in Sucker Punch made the game, and not just once again paid tribute to modern social trends, sprinkling the whole thing with a “big open world”.
